Recovering
A couple of weeks ago, he began experiencing almost unbearable pain, much worse than the occasional stiffness or aching that he would occasionally have. A trip to the doctor turned into a trip to a shoulder specialist which turned into an MRI which told us what we feared: Surgery was necessary to correct the problem.
Dr. Oglesby, a wonderfully kind and personable doctor, told Phillip that his shoulder x-rays looked like those of a 55 year old man. Which is about right, considering the double-duty that the Good Shoulder has been pulling all these years.
Today, we got good news. There was no extensive repair work that needed to be done. Dr. Oglesby shaved off a bone spur on the rotator cuff, cut away some shredded cartilage and took out a piece of torn muscle, and - once healed - Phillip will have a 29 year old shoulder again. Praise the Lord.
So, we are at home. Phillip is recovering nicely, thanks to a nerve block in his arm and some heavy-duty pain meds. So far, he has been a model patient. GrandBuddy is here taking care of Jack so I can primarily wear my Wife/Nurse hat for the next few days. Selfishly, I am actually really enjoying being able to take care of my first baby again, since he is usually the one taking care of me! We appreciate all the prayers that were lifted up on Phillip's behalf and that will continue to be lifted up as he journeys his way back to being Jack's favorite Human Jungle Gym!
